Phase Two

Phase Two of the Ice House project will consist of commercial space, community space, and residential units.  Initial plans show two restaurants on the ground floor, one brewery, and a ‘living jewelry museum’ designed by Harrisonburg’s own Huge Kohl where customers will be able to buy one of a kind pieces as well as construct their own jewelry using antique machines.

The overall concept of the Ice House is to deliver a community centric space where locals can spend time with one another while supporting new and emerging business across the Valley.  One way that Matchbox is accomplishing this is by once again investing in downtown Harrisonburg and renovating a building that has long been abandoned.

Despite its rough appearances, the Ice House still has incredible “bones” to make a unique, creative installation for nearly any user.  With exposed columns throughout, concrete floors, skylights, and extremely high ceilings we believe the building lends itself perfectly to the emerging commercial market of Harrisonburg.

In addition to the dynamic ground floor and second floor space, there will also be approximately 34 residential “lofts” on the third and fourth floors of the complex.  These spaces will feature efficiency and one-bedroom units that offer amazing views of downtown Harrisonburg along with the creative aesthetic design that Matchbox has brought to City Exchange and Urban Exchange.  For more information on rental availability, please contact Mary Messerley at

The expected completion date for Phase Two of the Ice House is Q3 2014.   If you would like to keep up to date with Phase Two’s progress, please follow us at Matchbox Downtown.
