Many in our lives have been lost or are fighting a battle that they never dreamed they would have to. They imagined that this was someone else’s disease. There are so many stories of survival, so many stories of loss and so many stories of pain. We, as a community- as a nation, can help change this horrible pattern for ourselves and for our families. One way is by participating in this event. Why not get together to create a masterpiece and have some fellowship for a worthy cause?
Matchbox Realty cares about you and your family and we want the hurt to end. This Paint Nite will help our Relay for Life event in May of 2018.
Join us as we raise glasses and funds for this worthy cause! When you buy a ticket to this event, $15 will be donated to the charity above. To date, Paint Nite has helped raise over $3.5 million for those in need with lively creative events that feel more fun than philanthropic. Feel good about giving as our local artist guides you and your friends through two hours of painting, drinking, and laughing ‘til your cheeks hurt. The best part? You don’t have to be an artist to have an amazing time!

Construction is under way at the new Rocktown Kitchen coming into the Harrisonburg Ice House!
139 North Liberty Street, formerly the Hess Furniture building, is set to reopen this month with an exciting new tenant roster. The building underwent a multi-million dollar renovation in 2015 to convert the building from an open furniture showroom to a space featuring six new downtown retail and office tenants:
Gone are the chairs up to the ceiling and the dressers as far as the eye can see (which to be fair, was kind of awesome in a treasure hunter Nicolas Cage kind of way). Instead, we see new spaces that both integrate the character of the older building and modernize its systems to work within the modern era.
At Matchbox, we are thrilled to be able to renovate and represent another downtown property for the people of Harrisonburg!
Downtown Harrisonburg has been named a Great American Main Street in 2014! Check out the video above to see all of the awesome Downtown Harrisonburg has to offer. Also, make sure to notice how Matchbox’s Livery building, Urban Exchange, Walton Hotel, Wine Bros. building, and Ice House all get a shoutout!
After months of hype and critical acclaim, Matchbox in Motion is back with Episode 2!
In this episode, Mike and Michael go through tenant and space updates for the new and improved Cassco Ice House along with explaining CAM fees that often appear on commercial leases. So huddle round the fire, and put on the greatest five minutes in media today.
You know what makes this downtown great? It’s not the fantastic food or the wide selection of beer or even the cool music venues. What makes this place great are the people. Individuals from all walks of life can come to downtown and shed their cars and their status to be one of many; they can come here and form true community, even if it’s only for a few hours on a Friday night.
Here at Matchbox, we are proud to be a part of that community and even more proud to house the work of Noelle Burgess this evening at our office downtown (202 N. Liberty Street). Noelle will display and sell her work as part of Harrisonburg’s First Friday and we are thrilled to give her the space to showcase her immense talent. Noelle’s work centers on tearing down stereotypes and preconception by challenging the viewer to see women not as sexualized, delicate creatures but rather confident, independent individuals who are capable of any and everything.
You can see more of her work at her website, but do yourself a favor and come check out a sample of Noelle’s inspiring collection tonight beginning at 5:30pm here at Matchbox.
Hugo Kohl has just signed his lease for the Ice House here in Downtown Harrisonburg! Hugo becomes the first commercial tenant signed at the Ice House (more announcements are expected over the next few weeks J) and here at Matchbox we cannot wait to welcome him to our building.
Hugo has accumulated the most impressive and renowned collection of jewelry manufacturing equipment in the world and he plans to use those tools to help individuals create one of a kind art pieces. His work is known throughout the world for its innovation and simultaneous preservation of materials and techniques no longer used in the modern era.
The Hugo Kohl space will be an interactive dream for jewelry lovers with over 5,000 square feet that includes a retail portion, a large showroom, and an interactive studio.
To read more about Hugo’s work check out his website. And for more information related to the Ice House make sure to stay tuned to Matchbox Downtown.

Virginia Department of Environmental Quality; Environmental Excellence
Matchbox Realty is now recognized as an Environmental Enterprise participant in the Virginia Environmental Excellence Program! Matchbox has gone above and beyond environmental and energy efficiency requirements, not only in its projects throughout Harrisonburg, but also at its home office located downtown (202 North Liberty Street).
Led by our newest portfolio manager, Lacey Derrow, Matchbox filed an Environmental Management System (EMS) application with the State and was approved! Our approved EMS includes innovative techniques such as radiant floor heat powered exclusively by solar panels, toilets with low flow settings to minimize water usage, and paper materials made exclusively from recycled products.
Here at Matchbox we are thrilled to be a part of such sustainable business practices and look forward to continuing our work throughout the state. Stay tuned to Matchbox Downtown for our official plaque ceremony (so cool, love plaques) in the coming weeks.
