It’s the Rocktown Chili Throwdown to benefit VAIL !

The Harrisonburg Strawberry Festival is back in town! This is a community fundraiser is being hosted by local Rotary Clubs for local park initiatives.

Start off Halloween week on the right foot by joining the Harrisonburg community this Saturday, October 22nd for the Skeleton Festival! The event will take place from 2:00 pm – 9:00 pm at the Turner Pavilion and Park. Activities will kick off with trick-or-treating at downtown businesses and will conclude with an all-ages party featuring kids, dog, and adult costumes contests, face painting, fire dancing, food trucks, live music, video art, “trunk-or-treating”, wacky shack, goober blobs, and whisker biscuits.

First Presbyterian Church Harrisonburg
Did you know that June 8th – June 15th marks the 22nd Season of Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival? As part of the festival’s week long events (a celebration of all things Johann Sebastian Bach), there will be daily concerts beginning at noon at First Presbyterian Church (17 Court Square) in Downtown Harrisonburg! It almost sounds too good to be true, but it gets better. There are no set ticket prices meaning you can contribute as much or as little as you can. But something tells me after hearing a soaring version of Bach Festival’s events.
It’s Wednesday on the week after Memorial Day and now that everyone is fully recovered from family fun activities and honoring our vets, it’s time to start enjoying Downtown Harrisonburg once again. Tonight from 6:00pm to 8:00pm will be a rockin’ concert at Turner Pavilion (228 South Liberty Street) featuring Final Hour. Music events at Turner Pavilion are held fortnightly (once every two weeks, yes, I googled it), and serve as a fundraiser for our local SPCA.
So if you love dogs or cats or bunnies or live music or being outside, this is the event for you. If you prefer to stay inside sitting in silence with your pet rock, that’s cool too, but know that there are a few other options out there.

As you may recall, we already declared Blue Nile the Best Coffee and Breakfast in Dowtown, but it turns out they also have top notch music shows and arguably the best music venue in all of Harrisonburg. Luckily, Blue Nile has posted their event calendar for April and we can all now plan our lives accordingly. So what’s on tap? Here are some highlights:

How many times have you sat and watched American Idol or The Voice and thought, “I could totally do that if someone gave me a chance. All I need is one shot.”
Well, it looks like you’re all out of excuses because tonight is Open Mic night at Clementine (153 South Main Street). Battling with Little Grill Collective for most prestigious and infamous Open Mic night in the area (Little Grill’s events are held every Thursday), Clementine’s open mic pitches itself as a singer/songwriter showcase giving an opportunity to anyone with a voice and a lot of confidence.
The mic opens tonight at 9:00pm and is held on the basement level of Clementine in Ruby’s. In the immortal words of B. Rabbit from 8 Mile:

The Artful Dodger in downtown Harrisonburg has a perfect solution. The Dodger will host a FREE dance lesson this evening, beginning at 7:00pm. The session will be led by local legend Reza Mina and will teach students the choreography behind Applause, Lady Gaga’s recent platinum hit.

One of the Valley’s most anticipated musical events will happen this weekend as Eastern Mennonite University performs its Annual Gala Concert on Saturday, November 16th beginning at 7:00pm.
The event features a wide variety of music performed by the University’s world renowned music department. Joan Griffing, the music department chair of EMU, notes, ““There will be a wide range of musical styles and musical groups, an eclectic mix of music. The concert will have something for everybody.” The hits include everything from the Beatles to Beethoven.
